As PLS continues to expand, we are happy to report we are looking to add the following position to our team:
Manager of IT
We are searching for a self-motivated individual to maintain and develop various websites, online databases and internal office network. The experienced candidate will have .Net, msSQL, mySQL, ASP and Microsoft networking experience. Dot Net Nuke experience is a plus. Candidate must be able to work on rapid development and deployment timelines and feel comfortable working collaboratively with clients and staff. This is a full time, permanent position, compensation and benefits package is commensurate with experience. This is not an entry level position. Congressman and Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Jim Gerlach was the featured speaker at today’s Press Club Luncheon. The Chester County Republican recounted his Western Pennsylvania childhood and explained his “Pledge to Pennsylvania,” a 17-point contract he believes will protect taxpayers and create jobs. It’s that time again – PLS is looking for interns.
For the spring of 2010 we are offering two different types of internships:
An IT Intern will assist with the development and maintenance of various websites and online databases. Responsibilities would include database administration and website maintenance. Ideally the candidate would have knowledge in at least one of the following: (1) MS SQL and ASP/C# or DotNetNuke; (2) PHP and MySQL. Preference will be given to candidates who possess knowledge in both fields. Candidate must have strong familiarity with standards-compliant HTML and stylesheets.
A Legislative Intern will engage in a number of activities, including attending hearings, committee meetings and press conferences and writing articles or reports on those events, summarizing legislation and assisting in the maintenance of our website, as well as general office duties such as scanning, faxing and photocopying. The ideal candidate will have an interest in politics and/or the political process, excellent writing skills and be familiar with computer programs such as Adobe Creative Suite and the Microsoft Office. This is a great opportunity to get involved with politics and the legislative process.

After bursting at the seams of 614 North Third Street for too long, we are excited to announce that PLS will soon be moving to new – and larger- digs – several blocks south on the 11th floor of the Payne-Shoemaker building, 240 North Third Street. We plan to move Thanksgiving week, and will be closed during that time, with sporadic email and telephone service until we are settled. We expect to be fully operational again by Monday, November 30.
As part of the move we are selling several pieces of office furniture and other office supplies. Their Craigslist ads are posted below. All prices are negotiable. If you or your business could use any of these items please respond electronically via the ad or call our office at 717.236.6984 and ask for Kim.

PLS Subscribers: If you’re planning to be away from the office, don’t just post an ‘out of office’ message. Disabling your PLS automated reports can cut down on the amount of unopened emails you have to view when you get back to the office.

PLS has learned the Senate intends to return to session next week, while the House fall session schedule, with dates throughout November and December, has been announced and is available to PLS subscribers on the Capitol Toolbox.

PLS has added a link on each member’s page so now you can follow members on Twitter or befriend them on Facebook. Just log in at mypls.com, open the Capitol Toolbox and search for the member in the navigation box. The links to Twitter and Facebook will be listed with the member’s office information.
